Investigators have determined an unknown woman entered the Lennox St business in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond about 3.30pm on Monday.
Staff were busy in the back of the store when the woman allegedly took four wigs, placing them into her jacket and bag, before leaving the store.
The wigs had been placed in the reception area as they were about to be taken to hospital to be given to children with cancer.
Police have released CCTV images of a woman they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.
She is described as caucasian with long dark coloured hair with blonde ends, wearing all black clothing.
A man who was allegedly waiting outside the shop for her is described as caucasian and was wearing a white or grey beanie, black hoody, black pants and white runners.
