Mr Ridge nabs consecutive Bouyon Artist of the Year honours at the Caribbean Music Awards

At the third annual Caribbean Music Awards held in New York on August 28, 2025, Bouyon music was prominently showcased.

During the event, Dominican artist Mr. Ridge was honored with the Bouyon Artist of the Year award for the second consecutive time. An independent press release stated that his recognition not only highlights his individual talent but also underscores his significant contribution to the genre’s development and international presence. Notably, this was only the second year that the Bouyon category was included in the awards, making his consecutive wins particularly noteworthy.

Mr. Ridge is recognized as the creator of Bouyon’s sub-genre “Nasty Business,” which has produced several successful tracks, including “B.D.Y.M.M” by Dirty Dawg Pudaz (a CMA nominee), “She Want a Ah” by Mr. Ridge, and “F.Y.M” by Mr. Ridge and Problem Child. His innovative approach continues to expand the boundaries of Bouyon, inspiring emerging artists within the scene, said the release.

When reflecting on his repeated accolade, Mr. Ridge expressed appreciation and pride, stating,“To secure this title for the second time is an honour beyond words. For me personally, it’s a reminder that hard work, consistency, and staying true to Bouyon pays off. For Bouyon music, it shows that the genre is not just alive, it’s thriving, gaining recognition on international stages, and connecting with more people every year.”

The genre’s international popularity has grown significantly, fueled by energetic collaborations with notable Caribbean artists such as Nailah Blackman and Machel Montano from Trinidad, as well as Skinny Fabulous from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Bouyon has also reportedly seen a surge in the French Antilles, reaching new audiences with its dynamic rhythms.

Commenting on the genre’s development, Mr. Ridge mentioned,“Bouyon has been evolving over the years, and I see myself playing a key role in shaping its direction. Locally, I’m making sure the younger generation stays rooted in its authentic sound, while regionally, I’m blending influences and pushing boundaries so that Bouyon can stand proudly alongside other major Caribbean genres like dancehall, soca, and reggae.”

His latest single, “Speedy Da Bur,” demonstrates his versatility, combining humor and creativity, said the media release. Additionally, he announced a new collaboration with 1T1 from Guadeloupe, which was released on September 5, 2025.
