Bay City area Big Thumb roundup Week 5: Laker still rocking after clash of unbeatens

LAKER 13, CENTRAL MONTCALM 0
Slow and steady wins the race — and the battle of unbeatens — for Laker.
No. 6-ranked Laker used a methodical attack to outduel host Stanton Central Montcalm 13-0 in a tough non-conference clash.
After making the long road trip, Laker (5-0) did not lose its patience, executing extensive marches that kept the Central Montcalm offense on the sideline. Laker’s final drive consumed the final 8:40 off the clock and secured the shutout victory.

“They had some great skill players and they were absolutely huge, but we managed to put together some long drives and grind the clock,” Laker coach Dave LeVasseur said. “We controlled the ball for almost the entire second half.”
Christian Sanchez and Luke Good punched in rushing touchdowns for Laker and the defense made certain the 13-0 margin stood. Good finished with 14 carries for 81 yards while Sanchez and Grant Buchholz each churned out 43 rushing yards.
Ben LeVasseur was 4 of 9 passing for 37 yards and Lucas Wehner caught three balls for 40 yards as the Lakers kept the chains moving.
Lucas Lesoski corralled 11 tackles while Wehner had eight stops and an interception as Laker registered its third shutout of the season. Central Montcalm (4-1) went 9-2 a year ago and entered the contest undefeated.
HARBOR BEACH 52, UNIONVILLE-SEBEWAING 6
No. 2-ranked Harbor Beach came as advertised.
Unionville-Sebewaing Area couldn’t slow the red-hot Pirates, who powered to a 52-6 victory in the Big Thumb Conference Black matchup.
Harbor Beach (5-0, 3-0) had a blocked punt and a scoop-and-score in the first quarter to set a dominant tone. Caden Buchholtz scored four first-half touchdowns to take charge at 44-0.
USA (3-2, 2-1) got on the board in the fourth quarter on a 15-yard touchdown run by Brady Green, who finished with 92 yards on 21 carries.
Noah Howard added 61 yards on 11 carries for the Patriots. Green and Luke Sattelberg each notched five tackles for the USA defense.
CASS CITY 47, SANDUSKY 7
Fresh off its upset of defending state champion Millington, Cass City was eager to keep it rolling.
The Red Hawks achieved that in dominating fashion, powering through Sandusky 47-7 in Big Thumb Conference White action. Cass City (3-2, 2-1) rushed for 382 yards and six touchdowns in the win.
Ryker Wallace pounded out 102 yards and two TDs on 17 carries while Will Perry rolled up 112 yards on 12 carries and Jackson Anthony went for 51 yards and two scores on 12 attempts.
Kaden Kruse and Gavin Franzel each added rushing touchdowns. Franzel also got in the end zone on a scoop-and-score, recovering a fumble and returning it 12 yards to the end zone. He notched 10 tackles to lead the defense while Braxton Kolacz had seven stops and a fumble recovery.
REESE 22, MARLETTE 14
Reese got another electric performance from Deegan Carter, who sparked the Rockets to a 28-14 win over Marlette in Big Thumb Conference White action.
Reese (3-2, 2-1) saw Carter get in the end zone five times, scoring three touchdowns and two two-point conversions while rolling up 184 yards on just eight carries. After Marlette took an 8-0 lead, Carter scored three straight touchdowns to drastically turn the tide.
Reese also got a 32-yard TD toss from Steele Stricker to Carson Soper. Stricker finished 4 of 5 passing for 58 yards.
Cole Stricker led the Reese defense with 11 tackles while Kenton Ratajczak added eight and Eli Adair seven. Carter and Tre Johnson each notched six tackles and an interception.
