M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, on Thursday directed officials to fast-track the ongoing white-topping work on J.C. Road and ensure smooth vehicular movement at the earliest.
During a surprise inspection on Wednesday, Mr. Rao reviewed the 1-km stretch from Minerva Circle to Town Hall, where white-topping work is under way. He noted that half of the road has been taken up for construction, while the other half remains open for traffic and instructed engineers to complete the work without delay.
He further mandated that the road width must be maintained at 15 m, including buffer zones, with pedestrian pathways of not less than 2.5 m on either side.
To prevent flooding, storm-water drains using 1,000 mm RCC NP-3 pipes are being laid along both sides of the stretch. In addition, three ducts of 200 mm diameter are being installed for power cables and two ducts of 100 mm diameter for OFC lines. The BWSSB has also laid new underground sewer and drinking water pipelines.
The project was handed over to B-SMILE on September 2. B.S. Prahllad, Technical Director of B-SMILE, said one section of the road will be completed and opened to traffic by September 30, while the remaining portion will be finished by October 31.
