Bay City area Jack Pine roundup Week 5: Gladwin, Harrison are getting it rolling

Recapping games involving Standish-Sterling, Gladwin, Ogemaw Heights, Clare, Pinconning, Beaverton and Harrison, Bay City area teams competing in the Jack Pine Conference.
GLADWIN 35, STANDISH-STERLING 0
Gladwin is getting its feet on the ground.
And the Flying G’s look ready to make a run.
Gladwin seems to have put an 0-3 start behind it, routing Standish-Sterling 35-0 for its second straight impressive victory in Jack Pine Conference-1 action.
“Our offensive line played a really physical and tough brand of football. And the defense was lights-out all night,” Gladwin coach Marc Jarstfer said. “We’re getting better and better each week and starting to put things together.”

Bronson Bigham ignited the attack, returning a punt 70 yards for a touchdown to start the scoring. Quarterback Colton Pfenninger proved tough, completing 5 of 11 passes for 62 yards and a touchdown while rushing 11 times for 97 yards and a score.
Bigham, who snared two interceptions on defense, also hauled in four passes for 57 yards and a touchdown offensively. Preston Willert and M.J. McDonald added rushing TDs for the Flying G’s (2-3, 2-1).
Keton Blackmer and Jeff Zeitz each tallied eight tackles for Gladwin, which was in control at 29-0 at the half.
Standish-Sterling (0-5, 0-3) continued its struggles with its second shutout loss of the season. Malachi Schaenzer was 19 of 30 passing for 110 yards for the Panthers, hitting Joel Bellor 10 times for 64 yards and Vance Stokoszynski five times for 36 yards.
Rylee Blanchard fronted the Standish defense with nine tackles while Jay Roper notched seven and Noah Gratopp and Bellor had six apiece.
OGEMAW HEIGHTS 41, CLARE 7
Ogemaw Heights dominated defensively and scored the final 34 points of the game, roaring past Clare 41-7 in the key Jack Pine Conference-1 showdown.
No. 9-ranked Clare could have made the league title chase a logjam with a win. Instead Ogemaw (4-1, 3-0) has taken control in its quest for a repeat.
Calvin Marshall rushed for 154 yards and two TDs on 18 carries while Eion Jones scored two TDs and Corie Kanitz had a pick-six for the Falcons.
Dane Alexander hit Conan Weeks for the only score for Clare (3-2, 1-2).

FARWELL 20, PINCONNING 7
Farwell exacted a measure of payback on Pinconning, handing the Spartans a tough 20-7 setback in Jack Pine Conference-2 play.
It marked Farwell’s first league victory since 2019 and was its first ever against Pinconning in four tries.
“We did an OK job of moving the football – when we had it,” Pinconning coach Walter Mulligan said. “Farwell had some really long possessions with their (T-formation offense) and we couldn’t limit it.”
Marcus Pickett highlighted the Pinconning offense with 92 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries while Danny Dubay went for 65 yards on 16 attempts. Pinconning (1-4, 0-3) finds itself in the JPC-2 basement after Farwell (3-2, 1-2) broke into the league win column.
HARRISON 52, ST. LOUIS 32
Harrison’s ground game went full steam ahead, churning out 490 rushing yards to hand St. Louis its first Jack Pine Conference-2 setback.
The Hornets got a monstrous performance from Clayten Austin in a 52-32 victory, keeping their hopes for a second straight title intact. Harrison (4-1, 2-1) needs someone to topple league-leading Sanford Meridian to get in on the title picture.
The Hornets took care of business in their usual manner, pounding out tough yards. Austin led the way with a 302-yard, three-touchdown performance on 20 carries. Ray Cosgrove also came up big with 122 yards and one TD on 15 carries. Collin Dennis and Nyxon Rhodes each rushed for a touchdown in the win.
Quarterback Matt Latunski was 2 of 4 passing for 48 yards, hitting Kelton Carlstrom for a 43-yard touchdown.
Alex Jansen fronted the defense with 12 tackles.
SANFORD MERIDIAN 48, BEAVERTON 28
Beaverton couldn’t slow Sanford Meridian’s roll toward the Jack Pine Conference-2 crown, dropping a 48-28 decision.
Meridian (3-2, 3-0) led 36-14 at the half, but Beaverton (2-3, 1-2) battled to the end.
“Meridian has a very good team and we found ourselves overmatched at times,” Beaverton coach Aaron Seiser said. “To our credit, we stepped up and had a strong second half. I’m very encouraged by our effort and attitude.”
Landon Love had another strong performance as a dual-threat QB, rushing 13 times for 117 yards and three touchdowns while completing 10 of 15 passes for 132 yards and a score. He connected with Jace Mishler for a touchdown and hit Jack Blades three times for 55 yards.
