Nursery retains ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating for third time

A nursery has been rated outstanding by Ofsted for a third time in a row. Buckden Day Nursery in Mill Road, Buckden underwent an Ofsted inspection on August 21.

It has been rated outstanding in all areas, which are: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management. The school has retained this rating, as it was rated outstanding at its last inspection in October 2022, as well as in March 2017.

Nursery manager Keeley Lockey said she is “absolutely thrilled” and “incredibly proud” of the nursery’s rating. She added: “Being awarded outstanding for the third consecutive time is simply wonderful.

“We have the most amazing team whose love, dedication and passion shines through in the nurturing environments they create and the ambitious curriculum they deliver. Ofsted recognised how our team builds secure attachments and provides warm, tailored interactions and that’s exactly what makes Buckden such a special place.

“We are incredibly lucky to have the support of both our team and our community. We all love what we do, and it’s truly wonderful to see that recognised in this way.”

Inspectors said children “thrive” in the nursery’s “outstanding setting”. Staff also offer “exciting and interesting learning opportunities” which are based on the children’s interests and next steps.

The report said the children were kind and respectful to each other, and that they engage in conversations about their play. It also said their behaviour was “outstanding” and they followed instructions from staff “extremely well”.

Inspectors added that staff prioritise the children’s emotional and personal needs at all times. The report said: “This is demonstrated through observations as staff respond to crying babies and offer comfort and a reassuring touch.”

Staff were also said to demonstrate their “high standard of teaching” through interactions with children of all ages, as well as “demonstrate their excellent knowledge and understanding” of all the children’s needs. The report said the management team has a “consistent and constant approach to reflective practice.

This means the staff were “always finding new ways to improve, change and extend their teaching and the experiences they provide for children”.
