Logitech has introduced the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 keyboard, a new wireless model equipped with Logi LightCharge technology for continuous operation powered by light.
The keyboard is designed to use any available light source, including sunlight and artificial lighting, to remain charged and functional. According to Logitech, once fully charged, the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 continues to work for up to four months even in complete darkness, without requiring users to connect to a charger or replace batteries.
The new device is aimed at users seeking a cable-free and charging-free typing solution, and it is available in both consumer and business variants. The business edition, Signature Slim Solar+ K980 for Business, provides additional features for IT administrators and can be centrally managed using Logitech Sync.
Continuous charging
Logitech has highlighted the increasing reliance on wireless devices and the corresponding need to avoid the hassle of regular charging. The company stated that the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 is designed to deliver simplicity and consistent performance.
“Even the need to think about charging can be a distraction, so we designed Signature Slim Solar+ to take that off your plate completely,” said Art O’Gnimh, General Manager of Core Products Group at Logitech. “It stays powered by light – any light – clearing your desk of cables and eliminating the need to ever physically charge it, while bringing elegance and comfort to your workspace. That’s one less thing to worry about on a busy working day.”
The Signature Slim Solar+ K980 features a full-size layout, with laptop-style scissor-switch keys and an integrated number pad. It is compatible with multiple operating systems through a universal multi-OS layout, and can switch between up to three devices using Easy-Switch keys. This allows users to move between a desktop PC, tablet, or mobile phone without reconnecting or re-pairing the keyboard.
Sustainable design
Logitech is positioning its new keyboard as a product developed with sustainability in mind. The graphite colour option contains 70% certified post-consumer recycled plastic, and the internal rechargeable battery is engineered to last as long as 10 years, reducing the need for replacements and helping to limit electronic waste.
The company says these design choices are part of broader efforts to reduce its carbon footprint while still meeting expectations for durability and reliability. The keyboard’s battery and light-powered system are expected to eliminate most long-term maintenance associated with wireless keyboards.
Business features
The business version of the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 is tailored for organisational needs, featuring the Logi Bolt USB-C receiver for secure connectivity, even in environments with many wireless devices in close proximity. IT teams can use the Logitech Sync platform to monitor product and firmware status across keyboards deployed within a workforce.
Up to 23 shortcut keys on the keyboard are customisable, including an AI Launch Key, which can be set up by employees to open different artificial intelligence tools depending on their preferences. The keyboard’s customisation is supported by the Logi Options+ application, which enables users to assign smart actions or automate common tasks.
The Signature Slim Solar+ K980 also supports Logitech’s Flow feature when paired with compatible mice, allowing clipboard sharing and control across multiple computers. Additional control features, including a fully customisable row of function keys, are accessible through software on supported Windows devices.
Pricing and availability
The Signature Slim Solar+ K980 keyboard is priced at AUD $179.95, while the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 for Business is available for AUD $189.95. Both versions are offered through authorised channels and online.
Key technical features of the keyboard include operation in darkness for up to four months on a full charge, compatibility with Windows and ChromeOS systems, and an on/off power switch. The devices are also compatible with management tools for IT professionals, including Logi Tune and Logitech Sync.
The new keyboard comes in three versions: a universal multi-OS option, a business-focused model, and another configuration intended for broader market compatibility. Logitech says it is supporting global availability and offering customer support to facilitate introduction into business and consumer markets worldwide.
