‘He is dead’ - Doorbell camera catches threats from jealous ex-partner

A jealous ex-partner drunkenly punched and kicked at a door because he believed the woman was with another man.

Bankrupt businessman 37-year-old Serdar Yavuz had become involved in angry phone messages earlier in the evening of May 4 this year when Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the new partner of the mother of his two children had made threats towards him.

Sheriff David Sutherland was told that it prompted Yavuz, of Daviot, to drive to the house in Moriston Road, Inverness where the doorbell video filmed him punching and kicking the door, while swearing and shouting at the occupants.

The footage was played in court and Yavuz was heard to say: “I will f****** kill you… He is dead. You brought a f****** guy to my house.”

At an earlier hearing, fiscal depute Martina Eastwood said: “The complainer is completely separated from the accused.

“On the night in question, he had texted her and appeared at her door, shouting, swearing, kicking the door and threatening to kill the new partner.

“There were two children in the house at the time. No damage was caused.”

Yavuz pleaded guilty to threatening and abusive behaviour, failing to provide a specimen of breath to police officers and repeatedly contacting his ex-partner whilst on bail.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said: “They had been in a relationship for 14 years. He was made bankrupt after building quite an empire for himself and developed an alcohol problem.

“He thought he could keep the assets he had left by signing over his house to his partner. But she formed a new relationship and he feared he was going to lose his property as well.

“Certain threats were made to him by the new partner earlier in the evening. He is deeply ashamed of his conduct and has sought help to tackle his alcohol problem. He is doing his best to turn his life around.”

Mr Gowans told the court that his client had health issues as well which made him unable to work so Sheriff Sutherland decided to place him under two years of social work supervision and ordered him to take part in a domestic abuser’s rehabilitation programme.

A two-year non-harassment order was also imposed.

Yavuz was also fined £320 on the failure to provide offence and due to Yavuz’s remote accommodation, the sheriff declined to disqualify him from driving and endorsed his licence with 10 penalty points.
