“The guys were focused, physical and they executed,” Glenn coach Jon Horton said. “That’s always a great sign with a tough game on the horizon.”
Glenn (4-1, 2-1) wasn’t messing around with visiting Bridgeport on Senior Night. The Bobcats roared to a 48-0 lead through one quarter and bared down to complete the shutout. The Glenn defense held Bridgeport (0-5, 0-3) to negative yards for the contest.
The Bobcats featured a pair of 100-yard rushers as Cam Burch rolled up 126 yards and two touchdowns on six carries while Garrett Hilborn went for 106 yards and two scores on nine attempts.
Gunner Mezey was 3 of 4 passing for 80 yards as all three of his completions went for touchdowns. Blake Francis and Isaac Kukulski hauled in TD catches while Bradley Boyk scored a touchdown by air and by ground. Che Arocha added a rushing touchdown in the win.
SWAN VALLEY 42, ESSEXVILLE GARBER 6
Essexville Garber knew it was in for a tough stretch when the schedule posted.
But the Dukes are doing their best to play tough against tough teams.
Garber dropped a 42-6 decision to No. 7-ranked Saginaw Swan Valley, coming out on the wrong side of a lopsided score for the third straight week – with state-ranked Freeland still looming.
“We’re really grinding and moving guys around to put a competitive product on the field,” said Garber coach Dave Matthews, whose team is dealing with a host of injuries as well. “I’m proud of how the guys have dealt with adversity. They’ve kept coming to practice and working hard, and they’re fighting in these games.”
Garber (2-3, 0-3) trailed 42-0 at the half before getting in the end zone on a Dominick Knezek run. The sophomore grounded out 92 tough yards on 23 carries.
Ethan Pett was 6 of 14 passing for 82 yards while Charlie Maze completed all three of his pass attempts for 20 yards. Madden Gwizdala hauled in three receptions for 54 yards.
