Bridget Phillipson announced that approximately 500,000 more children in England will benefit from an expansion of the free breakfast club scheme.
Around 2,000 primary schools across England are set to join the programme, which is backed by an £80 million investment.
The initiative aims to save parents up to £450 annually in childcare costs, ease the burden on working families, and provide children with a strong start to their school day.
The Education Secretary made the announcement ahead of the Labour Party’s annual conference, fulfilling a commitment from their 2024 manifesto.
Paul Whiteman, General Secretary of the NAHT, welcomed the expansion but highlighted concerns regarding funding, staffing, and space within school buildings.
