HMRC have named and shamed the businesses and individuals in Northern Ireland who have failed to meet their tax obligations. A total of eighteen businesses and individuals from here are on a list published by the HMRC of the 109 UK companies and people who have received penalties for deliberately defaulting on their tax obligations where the tax lost exceeds £25,000. Those on the list from Northern Ireland include a car salesman with a penalty of over £2 million, a plasterer penalised over £170,000 and a Belfast based vape retailer. Kevin Hubbard, HMRC’s Director of Individuals and Small Business Compliance, said: “We are determined to tackle the minority who deliberately refuse to pay what they owe and will pursue all available avenues to recover unpaid amounts. “Publishing the names of deliberate defaulters sends a clear message that this behaviour has consequences and encourages compliance across the board.” The businesses and individuals based in Northern Ireland named by HMRC are listed below, alongside their addresses, business, the tax years in question, the amount of tax owed, and the HMRC penalty given.
