Patriots defensive coordinator being treated for cancer

New England Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams is being treated for prostrate cancer, coach Mike Vrabel announced Friday.
Vrabel hired Williams shortly after he was named Patriots’ coach in January. Williams spent six years on Vrabel’s staff with the Tennessee Titans.
Vrabel said Williams is, “in the process of treatment , meeting with specialists and figuring out the best plan of attack to be able to attack this, heal it, fix it and allow him to get back to better health.”
Williams has been on leave since Sept. 10. He also worked remotely during part of the offseason, including rookie minicamp, due to a health scare.
Linebackers coach Zak Kuhr has called plays in Williams absence and will continue to do so.
“I felt like that went well,” Vrabel said of Kuhr acting as the defensive play caller. “I think the communication through the week, organization hasn’t missed a beat whatsoever.”
