    DUSU Elections 2025: ABVP And NSUI Accuse Each Other Of Vote Theft

    Voting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections occurred on Thursday. Both main contenders, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), accused each other of malpractice.
    The NSUI claimed that the ABVP manipulated votes at Kirori Mal, Hindu, and Hansraj colleges, arguing that the RSS-BJP supported ABVP is compromising the democratic integrity of the DU elections. NSUI president Varun Choudhary called for the disqualification of ABVP’s presidential candidate, describing the incidents as systematic vote theft.

    The ABVP dismissed the allegations as mere frustration, claiming it was poised to win all four seats. ABVP Delhi secretary Sarthak Sharma remarked that the NSUI was no longer competing for second place but struggling for third, adding that the rival group was blaming EVMs like the Congress does after every loss. ABVP supporters also alleged that current DUSU president and NSUI leader Ronak Khatri entered Kirori Mal College with outsiders, causing a commotion.
    Khatri, however, posted a video outside the college, countering that the ABVP was pressuring students to cast their votes and alleging vote theft on campus since morning. As voting continued in the evening shift, students and officials hoped the combination of stricter enforcement, high security, and judicial monitoring would set a benchmark for fairer campus elections in the future.

    Voter Turnout
    By 2:30 pm on Thursday, the election had seen a turnout of around 35 per cent. Chief Election Officer Raj Kishore Sharma informed PTI that data from seven colleges indicated a 35 per cent turnout, likely reflecting similar trends across other colleges based on historical records.
    Polling was conducted in two phases: from 8:30 am to 1 pm for day classes and from 3 pm to 7:30 pm for evening classes.
    Approximately 2.8 lakh students were eligible to vote, with the results expected to be declared tomorrow, September 19.
    Delhi Police deployed over 600 personnel, including 160 equipped with body cameras, as well as CCTV surveillance and drones to ensure smooth polling.
