Joel Embiid says to preserve his health he would have to ‘play offense fully, and take plays off defensively,’ but he doesn’t ‘see that happening’
If the 76ers want any chance of competing in the Eastern Conference this season they need a healthy Embiid.
When he’s at his best, Embiid is a complete difference maker on both ends. The 2023 NBA MVP is vital to the 76ers’ success.
Embiid was asked an interesting question at media day about whether he can change his game for the sake of staying healthy. However, Embiid made it clear that he wasn’t going to compromise his defensive efforts.
“I think about it. But then in games at times you can’t get out of yourself, all I know is ever since I started, is to play hard, play both ends
“There’s a lot of people in the league you know that play one side, whether it’s offense and defense, and a lot of times for me, my mentality is to do whatever it takes to win. And for all of my career actually has been having to do both.
“There’s some guys that I actually do a lot offensively and, you know, take plays off defensively, and there’s some guys that actually be the best defenders and kind of like chill on the corner. And I don’t blame them, he added.
