Early voting is underway for the Minneapolis mayoral election, which is set for Nov. 4, and candidates had the chance to talk about some of the issues in a debate Friday morning. MPR News says “five candidates debated policies governing encampments and public safety as well as approaches to opening more businesses in downtown and neighborhoods.”
A suspect has been charged in connection with a mass shooting at a homeless encampment in Minneapolis earlier this month, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune. The shootout allegedly “stemmed from a dispute over who got to sell drugs inside the ‘makeshift urban campsite,’ hours after another mass shooting hindered efforts to deal in another spot.”
Even in the age of technology, a Smart Pond might sound futuristic, but that’s exactly what Duluth engineers are developing. WDIO explains “it’s a pond that is connected to live weather forecast data. It uses information to project water levels to rise or lower depending on incoming storms.” The pond can be controlled either remotely or manually.
The popular card game Magic: The Gathering is now a learning tool thanks to a Rochester nonprofit. Jason Eggington started MagiKids in 2016. KTTC says many of the game’s elements are great for developing the minds of kids. “The organization says it receives about 50 applications from educators and groups across the country a week, looking to obtain cards.”
