First Signs of Construction at Former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

Construction materials have arrived at the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel of Walt Disney World. The building will be turned into Walt Disney Imagineering office.

Aerial photographer bioreconstruct shared these photos of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser building on September 20. In the wide photo above, new dumpsters are visible on the right along with wood panels for equipment to sit on. There’s also a row of portable toilets a few yards away from the dumpsters.
Bioreconstruct also noted markings in a paved area next to the the fire lane that runs between the hotel and a backstage building. The markings may be for future excavation and underground construction work.
Disney filed a construction permit for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser about one month ago contracting Balfour Beatty Construction for “general construction.” We learned earlier this year the space would become Walt Disney Imagineering offices to support various ongoing projects at Walt Disney World, like the new Tropical Americas land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Cars expansion and Disney Villains land in Magic Kingdom, and the Monsters, Inc. land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The immersive cruise-style Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience opened on March 1, 2022. It was met with mixed reviews, generally agreeing with our own review stating the live entertainment was magical and the overall experience changed the industry for the better but it was overpriced. It ultimately closed permanently on September 30, 2023. Read our look back at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
