The answer: $339.57.
The question: How much does it cost to eat your way through the alphabet at the 2025 Tulsa State Fair?
The mission of an eating adventure at the fair was to find a fair food item that starts with each letter of the alphabet and sample at least a few of them. Mission accomplished?
Here’s the result:
A: Animal Cracker Pie
Get a lion’s share (or maybe a rhino’s share) of sugary goodness in one creation. A graham cracker pie crust is filled with a white chocolate frosted animal cracker pie filling and topped with whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles and more frosted animal crackers. Available at Cutie Pies. Price: $11.
B: Butt Fries
What are butt fries? A bed of fries provides the foundation for cheese, red onions, pulled barbecue pork and jalapenos. Available at Donut Burger on the northeast border of the midway. Price: $15.
C: Caveman Turkey Legs
It’s a giant turkey leg wrapped in bacon. Get it at the group of concessions east of SageNet Center. Price: $32 (“ordinary” turkey legs are going for around $20 at the fair).
D: Dragon’s Breath
Dragon’s Breath is a frozen treat that smokes when you consume it. Pretend you’re a fire-breathing dragon between bites. Ice cream can be partnered with sauces, toppings and fruity cereal-type balls. Get it at Dragon’s Breath on the upper north level of SageNet Center. Price: Ours cost $17.58, but a simpler build can be had for $15.20.
E: Elephant Ears
No pachyderms were harmed in the creation of this version of elephant ears. Think deep-fried cinnamon dough. It’s at a concession near Haunted Mansion on the midway. Cost: $10.
F: Flower Pot Bread
It looks like the description, and it comes with your choice of two condiments. Get it on the row of concessions nearest the livestock area. Cost: $8.
G: Green Beans, fried
You can get all kinds of unhealthy things fried at the fair. Why not a vegetable? Get it at Chubbs and Spudds east of SageNet Center. Cost: $10.
H: Hot Cheetos Corn Dog
Corn dogs have long been a staple of the fair. You can get them as tricked-up as you want. Get the hot Cheetos version at multiple locations. Cost: $10.
I: Ice cream
Ice cream is a component in many dessert items at the fair. Get it in a sundae, in a waffle cone, in a cup or in a float at Freddie’s on the lower east end of SageNet Center. Cost: $6.
J: Jalapeno Cheddar Corn Dog
Again, you can get your corn dog as tricked up as you want. (Keep reading.) Freddie’s is among concessions offering a jalapeno version. Cost: $8.
K: Korean Corn Dog
We’re not yet halfway through the alphabet, and this is the third type of corn dog listed. The Korean Corn Dog has mozzarella cheese for an ingredient, and it comes with a thick, deep-fried panko breading. Get it decked out with blue Takis, hot Cheetos or Fruity Pebbles at Hoop’s on the far west end of the midway. Cost: $15.
L: Lemonade, strawberry
You’ve got to have something to wash down all of the above and all of the below. You can find lemonade and strawberry lemonade at multiple locations. Cost: $9.
M: Minneapple Pie
This deep-fried pie can be had in four flavors: apple, cookie dough, pumpkin and blueberry. It comes with your choice of two types of ice cream flavors. Signage at the Minneapple Pie concession, located east of SageNet Center, described the pies as “sexier than hockey hair.” Cost: $12 (you can get an ultimate version with both types of ice cream for $14).
N: Nachos, BBQ
Available at Smoke Stack BBQ, this is chips with nacho cheese, pulled pork and barbecue sauce. Cost: $15.
O: Outlaw Fries
There are other concoctions of fries at Outlaw Fries on the midway, but if you want to be an outlaw, the namesake version equals fries topped with cheese, bacon and sour cream. Cost: $15.
P: Paddlecake
It’s a funnel cake on a stick! Get it (or go the traditional funnel cake route) at Crown & Associates on the upper north end of SageNet Center. Cost: $6.
Q: Quesabirria Tacos
You get three to an order at Karen’s Concession on the overhang area of the upper level of SageNet Center. Cost: $15.
R: Rib-eye Sandwiches
Rib-eye steaks are cooked on site and served on a submarine bun. It’s simple meat-and-bread goodness, courtesy of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association at the livestock area north of the midway. Cost: $15.
S: Scorpion Pizza
Brave enough to try a slice? “Bug” pizzas (and there are other types) are $15 at a pizza concession east of SageNet Center. Cost: $15.
T: Toasted Ravioli
You have three choices: sausage & cheese, four cheese and spinach & artichoke. There are nine raviolis to an order, and they are served with marinara sauce at Mamma Mia’s along the row of concessions nearest the livestock area. Cost: $12.
U: Wagyu Yakitori
We’re bending the rules of the alphabet, but you can’t spell wagyu without a “u.” The simple description is steak on a stick with a special sauce at Hibachi in Tha Hood near the west end of the midway. Cost: $20.
V: Veggie Wurst
Tofurkey beer bratwurst is served with grilled onions, sauerkraut, spicy mustard and curry ketchup at The Wurst on the far east row of fairgrounds concessions. Cost: $16.
W: Watermelon Salsa and Chips
The salsa, slathered onto a pile of chips, is made with freshed diced watermelon, cucumber, jalapenos, cilantro and corn. The watermelon gives it a sweetness. “Fresh” is a great way to describe it all. Find it at Cutie Pies on the row of concessions near the livestock area. Cost: $8.
X: X-plosion
Cookie dough explosion is among menu items at Funky Flamingo near the west end of the midway. Ingredients: chocolate chip cookie, cookie dough, ice cream, hot fudge, caramel, Oreos and whipped cream. Said someone who sampled it: “Wow! Every texture in a bowl. Worth it.” Cost: $12.
Y: You can’t pick just one
If you have trouble picking only one type of cookie at Oh Honey Cookie Co., you can get a sampler box with six different cookies. Look for this inside the Exchange Center, which, during the fair, is the made-in-Oklahoma area. Cost: $11.99.
Z: Schnitzel Sandwich
After hunting for parts of two days to find a fair food item that starts with “z,” we settled for this item, which at least has a “z” in it. Celebrate Oktoberfest early with a schnitzel sandwich at Leann’s Country Kitchen on the overhang area of the upper level of SageNet Center. Cost: $15 (make it a meal for $20).
