About “I Was a Child Bride: The Courtney Stodden Story”
Part of Lifetime’s “Ripped From the Headlines” series, a collection of films based on real people, “I Was a Child Bride: The Courtney Stodden Story” follows the life of a 16-year-old starlet whose marriage as a minor was viciously dissected in the tabloids.
Narrated by Stodden herself, and told from her perspective, the biopic explores what led her to walk down the aisle toward 51-year-old actor Doug Hutchison — having been encouraged by her mother to pursue the entertainment spotlight — as well as the events that followed. This personal retelling highlights the ways in which Courtney was manipulated, exploited, and traumatized by both family and the media, offering her a chance to reclaim a controversial part of her life.
Watch the premiere Saturday, September 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
