LANSING, MI — An Ottawa County woman got her day off to an incredible start recently as she won a $300,000 jackpot playing the Michigan Lottery’s Safe Cracker Cashword instant game.
“I don’t usually play Cashword games, but the store was out of the two tickets I usually play, so I bought two Safe Cracker Cashword tickets instead,” said the 26-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous. “I scratched one of the tickets before going to bed and saved the other one for the morning.
“I scratched the ticket as soon as I woke up and counted the words over and over again when I realized I had 10. I was shocked and excited but tried to stay calm when I realized I’d just won $300,000! It still doesn’t feel real.”
The winner bought her ticket at the Speedway, located at 1815 Baldwin Street in Jenison. With her winnings, the player says she plans on paying off her car, investing, and saving the remainder.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed a $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.
And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Powerball winner worth $250,000 sold in Bloomfield Hills in 2024 went unclaimed. That money went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
