Liverpool manager Gareth Taylor has given an update on the fitness of Ireland striker Leanne Kiernan ahead of Sunday’s Women’s Super League clash with Manchester United . The game takes place at St Helens Stadium with a 12 noon kick-off. Kiernan was forced off after an hour of the Reds’ 5-0 Women’s League Cup win against Sunderland during the week, while teammate Marie Höbinger sat out that game with an injury. Liverpool are still looking for their first win of the new WSL campaign. They were well beaten in their season opener against Merseyside rivals Everton, and they followed that up with a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City. Currently second from bottom, Taylor is hopeful that Wednesday’s League Cup win can provide a spark in the WSL. And he will be hoping for a fully fit squad against a United side with seven points from their opening three games. He said: “Marie’s getting closer day by day so we will check in on her. We need to assess Leanne, hopefully she can train (on Saturday). “She came off with an inflamed foot, just from a kick, so hopefully those guys come back into contention but we’ll know a little bit more tomorrow.” Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email .
