Heavy rainfall forecast sees Met Office issue yellow weather alert

The Met Office has announced a yellow rain warning for Northern Ireland for Saturday, but here in Wales, the Met Office is predicting a “rather cloudy to start the day”, with outbreaks of rain arriving in the west during the afternoon, perhaps locally heavy, with a southerly breeze picking up in strength. Northern Ireland, on the other hand is being urged to prepare for substantial rainfall, starting on Saturday at around 8am and persisting until 8pm. But there is hope the weather will improve in Wales next week. A Met Office forecast said: “Outbreaks of rain will move eastwards across Northern Ireland on Saturday morning, likely becoming persistent and heavy across eastern counties during the afternoon before slowly clearing eastwards during the early evening. “20 to 30 mm rain is likely widely, with 40 to 50 mm possible on hills. This may lead to some flooding and travel disruption in places.” Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here In Wales, it will become largely settled again into next week, from Sunday, September 28 to Tuesday, September 30 with plenty of dry weather and sunny spells, with a small chance of a light shower. It will feel “pleasant with light winds and near average temperatures”, according to the Met Office For Northern Ireland, and any areas of the UK affected by yellow weather warnings in the future, the weather forecasting service has issued the following advice: Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer; Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer; Some interruption to power supplies and other services is possible; Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible. The Met Office has three categories of weather warning, depending on the likely impact of severe weather and also how likely it is to strike in a particular area. A yellow warning is issued when weather conditions are expected to disrupt travel and traffic and may impact on daily routines but are not likely to pose a risk to life or property. An amber warning is more severe and advises people to think about changing their plans to minimise the risk. A red warning means weather conditions are expected to be dangerous with widespread damage to property and a risk to life, with the public usually advised to avoid travelling. The yellow weather alert for rain will remain in effect until 8pm on Saturday.
