DUBLIN — Pittsburgh Steelers players want to see Dublin, but many of them will only have a short window to do so. Head coach Mike Tomlin and team president Art Rooney II said that the players will have a short window on Saturday to go see the city, but it will be a busier Saturday than usual for the group after flying from Pittsburgh.
The team will then get to the field early on Sunday for a local 2:30 p.m. kickoff in preparation for their game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Some players are looking forward to going out and seeing the city, like Pat Freiermuth, who says he will meet with his family and friends.
“I’ve had the full Dublin experience last year,” Freiermuth said, who have travelled over to the Emerald Isle for team events in the past. “But I’ll go down there and catch up with all my family and friends. A ton of people from back home are here.”
Freiermuth is just one player who has plans. Aaron Rodgers hopes to have some plans, too, and get a Guinness on tap, which he says is his favorite beer.
“I’m a huge fan of Guinness. I don’t really drink beer but if I do, I drink Guinness, and that’s the truth,” Rodgers said.
The team plans to approach this like a business trip, too. Pittsburgh will have the full meetings and an array of time to catch up on the meaning of the game in Ireland, but what comes first is the team beating the Vikings, and that is what they will focus on.
