We live in strange times when everything is questioned—even the obvious. When the US President publicly expresses the view that there is a correlation between a pharmaceutical preparation and autism, this automatically creates a broader issue of questioning medical science, with far-reaching dimensions.
Science is based on conclusions and evidence; it is not a matter of personal opinion. A President’s public statement about a correlation between a drug and autism—or any other disease—spreads panic and reinforces scepticism.
Simultaneously, it deregulates the public health system itself, which is now subjected to the logic of how each person positions themselves against scientific and medical recommendations.
