Ed Sheeran seems to be on his way to becoming an honorary desi, with fans joking that he now deserves an Aadhaar card. After setting stages ablaze with Diljit Dosanjh in Birmingham and Mumbai last year and then dropping Sapphire alongside Arijit Singh, the global superstar has now revealed his third collaboration with an Indian artist — and it’s none other than Punjabi sensation Karan Aujla.
The revelation came during his appearance on BBC Asian Network with Nikita Kanda on September 17, where Sheeran casually dropped the big news: “And I’ve just done a tune with Karan Aujla, as well.”
Ed Sheeran’s Punjabi Journey
Looking back at his recent tryst with Indian music, Sheeran recalled, “The first time I sang in Punjabi was doing Lover (Diljit Dosanjh’s song).” He admitted that while the experience was exciting, it was Arijit Singh who truly pushed him to adapt to a new musical world. This time, though, the journey took a fresh turn with Karan Aujla guiding him through the intricacies of Punjabi.
Calling Punjabi “a very melodic language even without melody” and inherently poetic, Sheeran explained how he wanted authenticity in every word. “Sitting with him (Karan) and being ‘No, you say it like this’. I said be really really brutal with me. So we sat together and he was brutally honest and we made it work!”
New York Shoot & October Release
While Sheeran remained tight-lipped about the track’s title and sound, he confirmed that the music video has already been filmed in New York just last week. Calling the shoot “really good,” the singer also revealed that fans won’t have to wait long — the song is slated for release in October 2025.
With this collaboration, Ed Sheeran cements his growing love affair with Indian music, moving seamlessly from Diljit’s Punjabi beats to Arijit’s soulful ballads and now, into the lyrical universe of Karan Aujla. If his words are anything to go by, the track promises to blend Sheeran’s signature global pop sound with the raw energy and lyricism of Punjabi music — a fusion that could very well dominate charts worldwide.
