Episode 35 of the podcast covers green buildings and green banking.

edie co-hosts Sidhi Mittal (senior reporter) and Sarah George (content editor) serve up two new and exclusive interviews on these hot-button topics.

First up, Sidhi is in conversation with Triodos Bank’s chief economist, Hans Stegeman.

Triodos Bank left the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) several months before many of Wall Street’s largest consumer banks jumped ship. It did so after the Alliance weakened a requirement for members to align with the Paris Agreement on climate.

Hans explains why, and shares his views on what it truly means to be an ‘ethical’ or ‘sustainable’ investor in 2025.

Then, Sarah is in conversation with the Building Research Establishment’s (BRE) head of responsible business, Kaie Small-Warner.

Kaie shares her takeaways from the recent World Green Building Week, which took place from 8-12 September under the theme ‘be bold on buildings’.

She explains how the built environment sector’s historic focus on operational energy use and emissions is broadening to cover embodied carbon, social impact and occupant wellbeing.
