If you’re a fan of local beer and food, street art, books and culture, you’ll want to find yourself in Salt Lake City’s Granary District this weekend.
Three events, all centered around Granary District businesses and landmarks, will be going on:
Hoodah Fest, at the wooden troll sculpture on the old train tracks.
Oktoberfest at T.F. Brewing.
A celebration at Fisher Brewing of bookseller Ken Sanders’ 50-year “literary legacy.”
Hoodah Fest is planned for Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m. at 700 South and 400 West, at the seat of the giant wooden troll nicknamed “Hoodah the Wooden Guardian,” built by local artist Garth Franklin.
According to an Instagram post from The Granary District, the free event will feature food from Comfort Bowl, Argentina’s Best Empanadas and Jamaica’s Kitchen, as well as a beer garden from Kiitos Brewing and Fisher Brewing Company. There will also be street art, glassblowing and drawings, as well as live music from Cecret Souls, Goyk, Chac XOL, Moodium and English Budgies.
Also on Saturday is T.F. Brewing’s seventh-annual Oktoberfest, happening at the brewery at 936 S. 300 West.
The VIP package is $60, and gets attendees exclusive early entry at noon and admission into the “tapping of the keg” ceremony at 12:15 p.m. It also comes with a liter mug, a 32-ounce first draft pour and a commemorative enamel pin.
For $40, general admission attendees can also get a liter mug and 32-ounce first draft pour, with entry at 1 p.m.
General admission without the liter mug is $10, with presale ending Friday at 5 p.m. On the day of the event, general admission is $20. To snag tickets, visit T.F. Brewing’s website.
At Oktoberfest, you can expect stein-holding contests and multiple serving stations, with food available from Central 9th Market and Weller’s Doner Wagon.
On Sunday at 4 p.m., Fisher Brewing at 320 W. 800 South is hosting a celebration for Sanders, as well as the 50th anniversary of Edward Abbey’s novel “The Monkey Wrench Gang.”
For the occasion, the brewery is releasing its Edward Abbey R Crumb Monkey Wrench Gang beer six-pack, as well as a 50th anniversary Ken Sanders beer, according to a news release.
Speakers will include Utah filmmaker Trent Harris, Salt Lake Tribune reporter Robert Gehrke and Ken Sanders himself.
