Taxpayers have been given a new deadline of October 31, 2025, to submit their audit reports. Previously, this deadline was September 30, 2025. Demands to Extend the Tax Audit Deadline

The CBDT received requests from several professional organizations, including chartered accountant associations, to extend the tax audit deadline. These organizations highlighted the difficulties faced by taxpayers and tax practitioners in completing audit reports on time. The requests stated that floods and natural disasters in some parts of the country had disrupted normal business and professional activities. This led to the demand for an extension. The issue was also raised in several High Courts. Thirty writ petitions have been filed in various High Courts across the country so far. The Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court directed the government and the CBDT to extend the September 30 deadline to October 31. The Karnataka High Court also asked the CBDT to extend the deadline to October 31. In a similar vein, the All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP) also requested the CBDT to extend the tax audit report deadline to October 31.
