William Shatner has broken his silence after reports emerged that the 94-year-old was rushed to hospital on Wednesday. The Star Trek icon is believed to have suffered a medical emergency connected to his blood sugar levels. The actor reportedly contacted emergency services who raced to his Los Angeles property, with paramedics whisking him off to hospital . A day later, William posted on X, formerly Twitter, to reassure fans “I’m perfectly fine.” The Hollywood legend, who has already received a wave of online support following the health scare, posted: “I over indulged. I thank you all for caring but I’m perfectly fine.” Alongside his update, the actor shared a photograph of himself from the Canadian television series Murdoch Mysteries Marked Twain, reports the Mirror . Beneath the image, his caption read: “Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated!” This is a famous quote from American author Mark Twain which was his response after a newspaper report in 1897 claimed that he was dead or gravely ill. This update follows the cherished actor being rushed to hospital after experiencing a sudden issue related to his blood sugar at his Los Angeles home. Paramedics transported him by ambulance to a local hospital, where he received examination and treatment. While he didn’t delve into the specifics of his health issues, “blood sugar issues” could suggest high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia) or low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia). Both conditions arise from the body’s inability to produce or use enough insulin to regulate blood glucose levels. Underneath William’s post, a multitude of fans expressed their well wishes and relief at the positive health update. One follower commented: “Thank you Captain. The crew was worried.” Another fan said: “Glad you’re okay, Bill. I’ve a good mind to place a bet on you reaching at least 100 years-old!” A third wrote: “I didn’t believe them. It’s not yet time for you to go to that great big Academy Awards ceremony in the sky or whatever the hell awaits any of us.” Another added: “As my Italian ancestors might say, ‘Cent’anni!’ Happy to hear you are perfectly fine – but then I’ve always felt that was a great way to describe you all the time – perfectly fine!” Despite William asserting his health is robust, he has faced numerous medical hurdles over the years, including a previous battle with stage 4 melanoma, a serious form of skin cancer. He ultimately triumphed over the disease through immunotherapy treatment, which he disclosed in 2024. He’s also previously revealed that he’s been living with tinnitus – a buzzing in the ears – for over 30 years, a condition triggered by a deafening on-set explosion during Star Trek production.
