GUJRAT – The Student Services Centre (SSC) at the University of Gujrat (UoG) organized a grand farewell ceremony titled the “Hafiz Hayat Awards” at the Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium to honour the outstanding literary, social, welfare, cultural and intellectual contributions of various student societies.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Zahoor Ul Haq, recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, graced the event as chief guest, while SSC Incharge Ms Shama Tehseen hosted the ceremony.
In his address, Prof. Dr Zahoor Ul Haq emphasized that providing quality academic facilities is the university’s foremost responsibility. He reaffirmed UoG’s commitment to supporting students through both financial and academic resources. He urged students to focus on their studies and contribute positively to the university’s reputation.
The UoG, this year, awarded scholarships worth approximately Rs250 million based on merit and talent. Additionally, orphaned students are being granted full scholarships for the duration of their four-year programs. The university’s inclusive scholarship policy aims to empower students — regardless of gender, ethnicity or background — to thrive in education and research.
Prof. Dr Zahoor Ul Haq advised students to rely on verified information and avoid rumours. He reiterated his vision to make the university a hub of constructive student engagement. He presented the Best Society Award to the UoG Debating Society and honoured Zoya Momina with the Best President Award.
He further stated that student societies play a vital role in promoting co-curricular activities and enhancing Pakistan’s global image. To improve campus transportation, UoG is investing Rs500 million in new buses. Development projects worth Rs1.5 billion are also being completed this year, including the modernization of departmental laboratories with state-of-the-art technology.
Students will soon be invited to participate as observers in various academic and administrative councils, recognizing them as the university’s primary stakeholders. Of the nearly 17,000 enrolled students, over 14,000 are women — whom Prof. Dr Zahoor Ul Haq described as UoG’s greatest strength and asset.
The university is also constructing a state-of-the-art gymnasium for students at a cost of Rs12.5 million.
The ceremony began with detailed presentations from student society members and office bearers, highlighting their achievements over the past year. Prof. Dr Zahoor Ul Haq distributed souvenirs to society coordinators. Faculty members, student leaders and representatives from various departments attended the ceremony.
