NamPower invests N$1.6m in Omaheke schools

The Namibia Power Corporation (NamPower) has set aside roughly N$1.6 million for two Omaheke region school projects this year.

The support was made available through the NamPower foundation, of which the company says continues to support worthy projects countrywide.

NamPower foundation head Otilie Mujoro says they have been assisting the education sector through infrastructure development, renovations, donation of computers, provision of stationery and furniture to schools and kindergartens, amongst others.

“All 14 regions of the country continue to benefit from the support channelled towards the education sector, thus far. Support for the education sector remains one of the key pillars of NamPower’s Sponsorship Policy. It is worth mentioning that education receives the bulk of our funding because it is one of the most important pillars for socio-economic development and the greatest equaliser of society, as people are treated as equals, based on their knowledge and competence,” he says.

The latest sponsorships in the Omaheke region was to Jarijo Kindergarten, based in Otjiyere, Epukiro Constituency, which was sponsored with the construction of a newly erected school fence and a classroom, valued at about N$777 000.

“School staff and pupils should no longer be concerned about unauthorised people/ animals accessing the school premises or classes being taught in crowded classrooms,” the head of the foundation says.

NamPower also sponsored Mokganedi Tlhabanello High School, based at Drimiopsis in the Kalahari Constituency with renovations of the laundry room, study room, and science lab.

The foundation further extended a hand to sponsor the same school with science equipment that will be used in the science lab.

The overall value of the sponsorship to Mokganedi Tlhabanello Secondary School is about N$ 640 000.

“This demonstrates our commitment towards improving the learning environment and living conditions of schools, which enable learners to thrive both academically and personally. At NamPower, we believe that learners’ safety, a conducive learning environment, and infrastructure are prerequisites for producing a good schooling experience, as they encourage better school attendance,” Mujoro says.
