Bobby Deol Refuses To Discuss 'What Kind Of Movies' Sandeep Reddy Vanga Makes, Says 'I Don't Think' About It

While Animal roared at the box office and became one of 2023’s most talked-about films, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga came under fire and faced heavy criticism for “glorifying violence and male chauvinism”. Many accused him of promoting misogyny in his films, even citing the examples of Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy. However, for Bobby Deol, the artist is separate from the art. In a chat with Raj Shamani, Bobby Deol praised Vanga while refusing to delve into the debate about the kinds of films he makes.
Bobby Deol said, “For me, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, I loved his films. I love his work. No matter, there’s a lot of debate about what kind of movies he makes, I don’t want to get into that. For me, I don’t think about all these things… Whenever I choose a project, it’s not about what people think of the person or don’t think about the person.”
Bobby explained, “It’s an entertainment business. I think about the characters I will play. Unless they don’t have substance, they don’t motivate me, or I don’t have the gut instinct about them, I don’t want to do them. For me, I love the way Sandeep Reddy Vanga brings out the other side of every character… which is not shown in movies because movies are always about good.”
“Every good has bad in it, but he brings out the greyer shades in every character. He brings a reality about it in a commercial way. When he offered me Animal… I couldn’t believe that he had messaged me… For me, working with Sandeep Reddy Vanga was the biggest moment, and I’m not just saying that,” the actor shared.
Animal was extra special for Bobby Deol as the film marked his big comeback. Although his role was limited in the film, Bobby’s presence made a massive impact on the audience. The film went on to become one of the year’s top-grossing movies, and fans were thrilled when a sequel, Animal Park, was announced. Animal faced some criticism for its storyline and graphic violence. However, in a report from India Today, Sandeep Reddy Vanga hinted that Animal Park would take an even darker and grittier approach.
