King Charles’ two-word response to Donald Trump immediately following his speech at the opulent state banquet in Windsor Castle has been unveiled by a lip reader. During his address, Trump , 79, seemed to veer away from his prepared remarks by making several political comments, something not typically considered proper etiquette during state banquets. This is particularly the case when the monarch is in attendance, but with his notes in hand, Trump suddenly seemed to take a swipe at his predecessor Joe Biden. Positioned between Charles and Kate Middleton at the 47-metre long table, Trump appeared to go wildly off-script during his speech turned to the King and declared: “We are, as a country, as you know, doing unbelievably well.” He went on: “We had a very…sick country one year ago, and today I believe we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world. In fact, nobody’s even questioning it…but we owe so much of that to you.” He also mentioned Union Jack flags, in an apparent reference to the ‘Raise The Flag’ movement. Following the address in front of other royals including Prince William and Queen Camilla, whom Trump also praised, God Save the King was performed. Guests then took their places to commence the banquet and straight away the King and US President were seen deep in discussion. Lip reader Jeremy Freeman couldn’t decipher everything that was exchanged but picked up on one telling two-word remark from Charles that perhaps perfectly captured his reaction to what had been said. According to Jeremy, Charles simply uttered: “Thank you.” During his speech, Trump heaped praise on Prince William, declaring: “His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales, really amazing, we’ve gotten to know you, and I think you’ll be an unbelievable success in the future.” He went on to say that he and First Lady Melania were “delighted to visit again with Prince William and see Princess Catherine, so radiant, so healthy, so beautiful”. Regarding the bond between America and Britain, he declared: “Together, we’ve done more good for humanity than any two countries in all of history. “Together, we must defend the exceptional heritage that makes us who we are and we must continue to stand for the values and the people of the English-speaking world, and we do indeed stand for that. On behalf of all Americans, I offer a toast to one of the great friendships.” Among the distinguished guests were Trump’s son-in-law Mark Boulos, accompanied by his wife Tiffany Trump. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was also present, alongside Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch. Prior to the American leader’s address, the King delivered his own speech celebrating the “special relationship” that unites the two nations. He declared: “We have celebrated together, mourned together and stood together in the best and worst of times.” The King continued: “The ocean may still divide us, but in so many other ways we are now the closest of kin.”
