On Thursday, September 25, New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn described the Jarvis Brownlee Jr trade with the Tennessee Titans with a simple two-word message.
“No brainer,” Glenn told the media.
“I give a lot of credit to Moug [Darren Mougey] and his staff. Anytime there is an opportunity to improve your team, you have to take a look at it. Sometimes those things go through when it comes to getting the deal just right, and sometimes those things go away because of that. Anytime that you can get a player you think can improve your team, you try to strike the deal as soon as you can,” Glenn explained.
“He is a guy that we looked at coming out of Louisville. He was aggressive, a hard worker, [and] plays a brand of football that we believe in,” Glenn said.
Brownlee Expected to Help the Jets in a Multitude of Ways
“He can [play in the slot]. He actually did that while he was in Tennessee, and he played on special teams quite a bit. When he gets a chance to get on the field with us, we have a plan in place for him, and again, he is a guy that we are excited to have,” Glenn added.
Brownlee won’t be available immediately for the Jets. He missed his final game with the Titans in Week 3 due to an ankle injury. At the beginning of Coach Glenn’s media availability, he described Brownlee as “week-to-week” with his injury situation.
Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic wrote in a column that he could miss “a game or two.”
“Brownlee was projected as a nickel corner coming out of Louisville — don’t be surprised if that’s his role with the Jets too, especially with Michael Carter II banged up and struggling — but mostly played on the outside with Tennessee,” Rosenblatt revealed.
Brownlee Breaks Silence on Jets-Titans Trade
On Tuesday, September 23, the Jets struck a trade with the Titans. Gang Green flipped a 2026 sixth-round pick to Tennessee in exchange for a 2026 seventh-rounder and Brownlee.
On Thursday, September 25, Brownlee met with the local Jets media for the first time since the trade.
Brownlee said he was “absolutely surprised” and “a little bit hurt” by the news. A media member asked during his availability if Tennessee explained why they traded him away, and he responded no.
Titans Insiders Also Seem Confused Over Surprise Trade
Brownlee wasn’t the only one surprised by the trade. Several Titans analysts have been left baffled on social media, trying to figure out what happened.
“The Tennessee Titans took many by surprise on Tuesday when it was announced they were trading starting cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. to the New York Jets. After the initial shock of that news subsided, the terms of the trade made even less sense. The Titans were sending the second-year pro and a seventh-rounder to the Jets in exchange for a sixth-round selection,” Easton Freeze of AtoZ Sports wrote.
“This is a textbook example of the kind of trade that has two basic possible explanations:
1. The front office just made a mind-numbing value error
2. There’s a lot more to this player and/or their standing on the team than the public knows
You decide which sounds more plausible to you,” Freeze posted on social media.
