Expert explains: Hegseth's meeting of military commanders in Virginia

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth called top military commanders to a meeting in northern Virginia, according to sources.
“No one, and I mean, no one, even like senior-level generals who have been directed to travel, in some cases, 1000s of miles for this meeting, have been told yet what the purpose of the meeting is,” Washington Post reporter Dan Lamothe said.
Calling so many generals together on such short notice is very unusual, Lamothe said.

“In talking to more than a dozen sources, nobody we talked to had ever heard of anything like this in their 30, 35-year careers, they [sic] really is rare,” said Lamothe.
Security is also a concern, Lamothe said.

“When you’re pulling this much leadership, this much talent in one place, it at least raises the concern, you know, what if something were to happen?” said Lamothe. “The Pentagon has highly sensitive video teleconferencing ability. They hold meetings all the time virtually… so that there’s really no sense for why you would need everybody in person.”
