STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Richmond County District Attorney’s Office (RCDA) is inviting residents to attend its annual “A Mile in Their Shoes” walk and family festival.
The festival, which is in its fourth year, will be held at Willowbrook Park on Saturday, Oct. 4, from noon to 3 p.m.
The annual event, which has previously drawn hundreds of Staten Islanders and coincides with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, is set to feature everything from free carousel rides and face painting to ice cream, zoo animals, a bouncy house and health screenings.
As noted by the RCDA, domestic violence accounts for roughly 50% of Staten Island’s felony assaults.
“Domestic violence impacts far too many lives on Staten Island, many of whom sadly suffer in silence,” DA Michael E. McMahon said.
“While we support, serve, and work to secure justice in the courtroom for survivors and their families every single day, the month of October provides us with a unique opportunity to shine a light on this critical public safety issue which too often is shrouded in secrecy.”
The park is located at 1 Eton Place in Bulls Head.
On-site registration begins at 11:30 a.m., and the first 100 participants to register will receive a free swag bag.
