The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services hopes to fill many of the 100 staff positions being created at the Oklahoma Forensic Center during a job fair in Vinita next week.
The positions are for a new 84-bed addition to the Oklahoma Forensic Center, the state’s only facility for pretrial defendants deemed incompetent for adjudication and for individuals found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity or by Reason of Mental Illness.
“ODMHSAS is excited to share that the Oklahoma Forensic Center’s new wing is on track to open this fall, pending successful recruitment and onboarding of behavioral health staff,” department spokeswoman Maria Chaverri said in an email. “The expansion adds 84 needed beds, will help reduce wait times for treatment, and moves the state closer to meeting consent decree milestones.”
Oklahoma is under a federal consent decree to improve mental health services for those deemed incompetent for adjudication.
