Carnie Wilson is on the road to recovery after being hospitalized with complications from her lap-band removal surgery.
“OK, the official update. My daughter’s getting a prescription for me right now, but I am out of the hospital,” Wilson, 57, shared via Instagram on Wednesday, September 24. “I had my lap-band surgery. It was a great success. Thank you Dr. Billy. But I had some swelling in the legs that kept getting worse.”
The cofounder of Wilson Phillips said she needed to go back into the hospital because of high blood pressure.
“It was very scary, but after a couple of days there, we changed the med,” she revealed. “And the swelling has gone down and, like, almost gone, and I am finally over this hump recovering from my lap-band removal.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, a lap-band is a silicone band placed under your stomach, which aims to reduce your stomach capacity and slow the passage of food through your stomach. The adjustable gastric band is a surgically implanted device to help people with obesity lose weight. It was approved by the FDA in 2001.
Wilson originally had her lap-band implanted in 2012. At the time, she explained to People why she wanted to undergo the procedure.
“It was the right decision for me and I’m doing really well so far,” Wilson explained. “It’s all about taking good care of myself.”
When reflecting on her latest hospital visit, Wilson said “it was intense” after doctors discovered some scares.
“They found an ulcer in there,” she said. “It doesn’t surprise me with all the stress I’ve had this year. They actually found an obstruction with food inside the lap-band. That makes me want to barf.”
Back in June, Carnie mourned the death of her father, Beach Boys cofounder Brian Wilson. The Grammy-winning singer died of natural causes after experiencing respiratory arrest. He was 82.
As Carnie continues to recover from her surgery, she’s expressing gratitude for all of the healthcare workers who helped during her recent health scare.
“I’m so grateful right now and so lucky, and thank you, Community Memorial Hospital and Dr. Billy and everyone who helped me there,” she said. “The nurses were incredible. I am just so, so lucky to have gotten through this. It really put a new perspective on some health things for me and it’s great.”
Over the years, Carnie has been open about her weight-loss journey and has shared what has worked for her.
Back in May, the singer was asked to share her stance on weight-loss medication. At the time, she said Ozempic was not for her.
“That scares me. I won’t do it. I just had a friend who was hospitalized, so it’s not going to happen for me,” she told Fox News Digital. “It’s a balance every day. It’s not perfect. I’m just trying not to eat sugar. I have a little tiny bit, like in a granola bar, maybe, but I find that it affects my mood. It affects my energy level. … It’s all about taking care of myself, and I think that it’s connected. What I put in my mouth makes a big difference. If I eat an apple, I feel better. If I eat sugar, I don’t feel good. So it really makes a difference. It’s how I take care of myself.”
