BTS’ Suga-Backed MIND Band Searches For Volunteers To Help Children With Autism

BTS member Min Yoongi, popularly known as Suga, attempts to bring positive changes in the society by establishing the Min Yoongi Treatment Center and offering long-term support to children with autism in collaboration with Severance Hospital in Seoul. The K-pop icon is also putting efforts into helping the children with an instrumental band called MIND Band.
What Is The MIND Programme And Band?
MIND is an instrumental band, an initiative of the MIND Programme co-developed by Suga and Severance Hospital’s Pediatric Psychiatry Department. The word ‘MIND’ stands for Music, Interaction, Network and Diversity. This is a group social skills programme that incorporates musical content into the existing social skills programme to help children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. The band is actively looking for volunteers to help with the programme.

As per reports, following Suga’s military discharge in June this year, the K-pop sensation donated 5 billion KRW, approximately $3.64 million, to the Severance Hospital, scripting history for making the largest single donation at Severance Hospital’s Yonsei Medical Centre and its affiliated children’s hospital.
ARMYs Praise Suga’s Efforts
Soon after the news was out, fans took over social media to send best wishes to Suga and the hospital. One fan wrote, “He is a genius and has a generous heart. To spend his own time and money to help others…it’s a good deed indeed. Very proud to stand by a man like Min Yoongi.” Another fan said, “He will always be our pride.” Someone else noted, “Couldn’t be prouder of you, Yoongi…good heart, sensitive mind, constructive actions, excellent results. This is Min Yoongi, our masterMIND.” Another person added, “This is amazing. The only thing I’d wish for is that the musicians got paid instead of being volunteers.”
Suga’s Efforts at MIND Programme and Band
The Min Yoongi Treatment Center located in the Seodaemun district of Seoul has been named after Suga’s real name. The establishment is focused on helping individuals with autism spectrum disorder through therapy sessions and support programmes. Under the facility, the MIND Programme uses music as a primary therapy tool to help children with autism to express their emotions, increase social connections, and enhance communication skills. Some of the activities under this MIND Programme include learning to play instruments and attempting to write song lyrics, among other engaging activities.
