Investors Want Disney to Share Records Regarding Jimmy Kimmel Live Suspension

Following the suspension and return of Jimmy Kimmel Live, investors are demanding Disney share its records to understand the reasoning behind the decision.
Suspension and Return
After making remarks regarding Charlie Kirk that went viral, Disney-owned ABC decided to suspend the show indefinitely. Here is are the remarks that led to the suspension:
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
The decision to pull the show occurred on September 17, but after online debate and outrage, Disney and ABC confirmed the show would return on September 23. The decision was made after Disney CEO Bob Iger, Disney Entertainment chief Dana Walden, Kimmel, and members of Kimmel’s team “had thoughtful conversations.”
Investors Want Answers
According to Seeking Alpha, a letter from lawyers who represent various investor groups asked Disney to share records related to the suspension in order to get clarity on the matter.
The letter condemned Disney’s decision and said investors have the right to investigate whether or not Disney executives fulfilled their fiduciary duties. They threatened to sue if Disney did not release those records within five business days.
“Although we are pleased that ABC did the right thing and put Jimmy Kimmel back on the air last night, due to the Trump administration’s continued threats to free speech, including with respect to ABC, we are writing to seek transparency into the initial decision to suspend him and his show. There is a credible basis to suspect that the Board and executives may have breached their fiduciary duties of loyalty, care, and good faith by placing improper political or affiliate considerations above the best interests of the Company and its stockholders.”
