The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has issued a security advisory alerting users to multiple vulnerabilities identified in Google Chrome.
The Commission warned that these flaws pose a serious threat to users who fail to update their browsers.
According to the advisory, the most severe of the vulnerabilities could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on a victim’s system, potentially compromising both personal data and overall system integrity.
The advisory added that the vulnerabilities could allow malicious actors to install programs, view or delete user data, or even create new user accounts with full administrative rights.
Such capabilities place users at serious risk of losing control of their systems and sensitive information.
The vulnerabilities were disclosed in a security advisory released by the NDPC, highlighting growing threats targeting internet users.
How the vulnerabilities could affect users
According to the NDPC, exploitation of these flaws may allow attackers to:
Install unauthorized programs on a user’s systemView, delete, or modify user dataCreate new accounts with full administrative rights
The Commission warned that these attacks could lead to data theft, system hijacking, and long-term compromise of user privacy.
How to protect your system
The NDPC urged Nigerians using Google Chrome to take the following precautions:
Apply updates immediately: Ensure Google Chrome is updated to the latest version to patch discovered vulnerabilities.
Limit administrative rights: Operate with standard user privileges whenever possible to minimize the impact of potential attacks.
Exercise caution online: Avoid clicking on suspicious links, opening unsolicited attachments, or visiting untrusted websites.

Banking apps also targeted
In a related development that the Nigeria Computer Emergency Response Team (ngCERT) under the Office of the National Security Adviser has warned Nigerians who use Android devices about a malware called Anatsa banking trojan.
The malware is specifically designed to target banking apps and steal financial information from users.
NCC warns Nigerians on 5 Google Chrome
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian Communications Commission’s Computer Security Incident Response Team (NCC-CSIRT) has identified five malicious Google Chrome Extensions.
According to the commission, the extensions surreptitiously track online browser activities and steal users’ data.
The five malicious extensions are McAfee Mobile, Netflix Party, Netflix Party 2.
Others are Full Page Screenshot Capture Screenshotting, FlipShope Price Tracker Extension, and AutoBuy Flash Sales.
