Valheim’s latest update adds Bears and Trinkets with special effects

Iron Gate Studios is pushing an update to the live Valheim version. The new patch features some new items, a brand new trinket feature, and the game even has bears now. Expect these big boys to get you into the forests, alongside the new trinket system, adding quite a lot to the gameplay. Bears are a big talking point, with them being a requested enemy type in the game for a while to diversify the usual boars, trolls, and other greyling antics you find early game. The bears drop Bear Hide, Bear Trophy, and Bear Paw materials, which will make new bear armor crafts and base decorations for your troubles, featuring wall trophies and a new Bear Rug decoration. You can even get the Bear Paw weapons, which will serve as an agile fist weapon for those looking for that new shaman-monk style of character. The black bears also seem to spawn in already explored Black Forest areas, too, which should mean you don’t need to generate an entire new world to enjoy the content update, based on reports from the Public Test servers a few weeks ago. How does the new Valheim Trinket system work? The other major feature is the new Trinket system. The Trinket system is a new item slot on your gear, which will hold a Trinket. There are a few to choose from, with players being able to find them throughout the game or craft them with parts you’ll find through the various biomes using different metals, animal parts and more. To use the trinket, you will need Adrenaline. Adrenaline is built up in combat, which you then cap out. You can then spend Adrenaline to activate your Trinkets, granting you a boon for your troubles. From what we are aware of, the boons can be these sorts of things: Increased stamina regen Grants block, parry and dodge bonuses Grant armor and health on use Damage resistance Boost specific weapon damages Increased movement speed Different trinkets have different Adrenaline costs, so that might help you work out what trinkets you want to use in your build as and when you can get them. You’ll likely want to cycle equipped trinkets based on what you’re doing. Explorers may want to use the movement speed and swim speed ones, while players heading to fight a boss or dungeon may want to equip a stamina, weapon buff, or defensive trinket instead. The final big feature of the patch is the wooden weapons. These weapons deal 0 damage, and are used for co-op players to spar against each other. It’s a nice way of testing what weapons you want to use, and a fun way of setting up tournaments or other co-op events in game. Be a true viking and make a fighting pit to spar with each other, or maybe a training camp in your castle for medieval role play. The new patch comes with a huge list of balance changes and fixes to the game, along with minor item stand updates too You can check the full Valheim patch notes here.
