The annual review meeting of Points of Entry (PoEs), jointly organised by the Port Health Organisation (PHO) Cochin, and the Airport Health Organisation (APHO), began here on Thursday (September 25, 2025).
The meeting will review the progress of various technical activities and infrastructural projects under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, aiming to address administrative issues across the different PoEs.
Rekha Raikar Kumar, Member (Finance), Land Ports Authority of India, was the Chief Guest. Gurkaran Singh Bains, Commissioner, Customs House, Cochin, Satish Honnakkatte, Deputy Chairman, Cochin Port Authority, Manu G., Airport Director, Cochin International Airport Limited, and Dr. Asha Devi, District Medical Officer, Ernakulam, were also in attendance.
The PoEs serve as India’s first line of defence against public health threats, including chemical, biological, and radiological-nuclear hazards. They play a crucial role in preventing the transmission of diseases through passengers, conveyances, and cargo across borders, ensuring a safe environment. At present, 43 PoEs are operational across the country, according to a communication.
