National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) and Transvolt Mobility have entered into an agreement for the deployment of 1,000 electric trucks in India, as per a report by ANI. Accomplished after a technical trial of one year that commenced on the World EV Day last year, this becomes a step toward heavy-duty electric vehicles (HDVs) on primary freight routes. The truck deployment is being undertaken under a Rs 500 crore blended climate financing instrument that is meant to support a massive scale initiative such as this. The third pilot was based on electric trucks which also took place last World EV Day in a gathering of policymakers, financiers, fleet operators, and logistics stakeholders. In August 2025, NHEV introduced a Rs 500 crore blended finance instrument with an aim of deploying between 720 and 810 electric trucks by means of Viability Gap Funding (VGF). Deployment Scale And SupportThough it was projected conservatively, the initiative actually went beyond expectations and now there is a plan for 1,000 electric trucks to be deployed across India’s freight routes. This fleet will be managed and operated by Transvolt Mobility. Key financial support includes USD 57 million in viability gap funding (VGF) under the National Electric Vehicle Program (NHEV) and a USD 20 million equity investment from International Finance Corporation (IFC) into Transvolt Mobility.
