Muslim Personal Law Board calls for nationwide bandh on October 3

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has called for a nationwide bandhon October 3 against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025.

The Save Waqf, Save Constitution initiative of board, office bearers, on Wednesday, urged that shops, offices, and business establishments, except hospitals and allied institutions, remain closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The bandh, the board stated, is a manifestation of a peaceful protest against the Waqf Amendment Act, and would be peaceful. The protest is not against the any community, the board clarified, but was an effort to raise a collective voice against amendments to the Waqf Act.

The board office bearers, including president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, urged khateebs of masjids this Friday to spread awareness about the Act and seek wholehearted participation of the community. The AIMPLB maintained that the proposed legislation undermines the autonomy of Waqf institutions rather than safeguarding them.

This demonstration is another event in a series of efforts across the country, which the AIMPLB has embarked upon, to lodge their protest against the new waqf legislation.
