A shocking scene unfolded at Birsa Munda Government Medical College in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district when a doctor on duty was attacked by two fellow interns inside the labour room. The disturbing episode, caught on camera, shows a woman in labour being wheeled in while two young women suddenly pounce on the doctor, pulling her hair and hitting her.
The victim, Dr. Shivani Lariya, was on duty on the night of September 11 when the alleged attack took place. A male doctor tried to intervene but was also threatened by the accused interns. The brawl has raised serious concerns about patient safety and professionalism inside a hospital ward.
Clash Over Duty Hours
According to reports, tensions had been brewing between the interns for days over night-duty assignments. Around 9:30 pm on September 11, matters escalated when Dr. Yogita Tyagi and Dr. Shanu Agrawal allegedly stormed into the labour room and attacked Dr. Shivani. The victim later filed a written complaint with the medical college administration, demanding strict action against her batchmates.
Confirming the incident, Dr. Nagendra Singh, superintendent of the medical college hospital told The Times of India, “All three doctors are MBBS interns of the same batch. Dr Shivani Lariya filed a written complaint against her batchmates, Dr Shanu Agarwal and Dr Yogita Tyagi, for assaulting her on Thursday night. The complaint was received on Friday, and a four-member probe committee was formed immediately.”

Strong Reactions Online
The video of the scuffle has triggered a flood of responses from people who expressed everything from anger to disbelief. Many questioned how medical interns, responsible for saving lives, could fight in front of a patient in labour.
A user wrote, “They deserve to get suspended.”
Another said, “Baby already fighting for first breath, doctors fighting for first punch. Strict action should be taken against these stupid people. This is not a WWE ring. It’s a bloody delivery room.”
Others went a step further, demanding that the licenses of the accused interns be revoked.
While a few dismissed it as a “catfight” or made jokes, a larger section of people pointed out the danger to the patient and the damage such incidents cause to the reputation of medical professionals.
