Sir Andy Murray has added yet another string to his bow by landing a new job alongside a cherished family member and several other tennis stars. The two-time Wimbledon champion retired from the sport after last year’s Paris Olympics, but has kept himself incredibly busy in retirement, even briefly coaching long-time rival Novak Djokovic just months after hanging up his racket. He has also devoted much of his retirement to the golf course, with the 2027 Open now in his sights. However, Murray has primarily spent more time with his wife, Kim and their four children. The family got a new addition earlier this year, with the tennis legend now the proud owner of Bonnie, an eight-month-old flat-coated retriever. Together, Murray and Bonnie have teamed up with pet food giant Purina for a new campaign aimed at encouraging owners to care for their pets ‘like a PRO’. Several other tennis stars have also signed up to the Purina PRO PLAN campaign, including Jasmine Paolini and her dog Cesare, Cagla Buyukakcay and her cat Izo, as well as power couple Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina and their pet dog Wizz. In a statement, Purina expressed their commitment to supplying top-quality pet food to ensure dogs and cats lead active and healthy lives. The campaign draws inspiration from how tennis players work closely with nutrition experts to optimise their diets. Murray has shared details about the campaign on social media, even transforming his LinkedIn profile into a joint account with Bonnie to highlight her significant role in their partnership. “Bonnie only joined us this spring and she’s such a big part of our family already, so for me it’s important that we prioritise her health and nutrition,” said Murray. “Throughout my career, nutrition has been key to my performance, and so it makes sense that we do this for Bonnie too because she’s going to be busy as she keeps up with life in the Murray house. “I’ve learnt so much about pet nutrition and how important it is since I started working with Purina PRO PLAN and I hope Bonnie and I can inspire PRO level care among other pet owners.” Murray welcomed Bonnie into the family eight months after his cherished border terrier, Rusty, died . He had previously owned another dog, Maggie May, who passed away in 2022. Following Rusty’s death, he shared an emotional tribute on social media, which read: “You were the most loyal and protective companion our family could have wished for. “You were so patient and gentle with the kids and we all learned so much from you. The house feels empty without you in it… Love you ruzz rest easy poppet.”
