'All Or Nothing': King Charles Shuts Door On Prince Harry's Return In Hour-Long Private Meeting

Although King Charles and Prince Harry reunited publicly recently, the father has made it “absolutely clear” that the Duke of Sussex cannot be a “half-in, half-out” member of the Royal family. Palace sources told The Telegraph that Harry will not be allowed to have a “half-in, half-out” role and the monarch said the Duke of Sussex will not be returning to active royal duties. King Charles maintained that serving the monarchy is a whole-or-nothing proposition, and there is no middle ground in returning to official duties while maintaining private business ventures, the outlet reported. Less than two weeks ago, King Charles and Prince Harry met at the King’s London home, Clarence House, on September 10 for a private tea lasting just under an hour. Like his mother Queen Elizabeth before him, King Charles apparently made it clear to Prince Harry that the Duke of Sussex cannot be a half-in, half-out royal, a view also shared by the King’s mother, Queen Elizabeth, when Harry and wife Meghan Markle stepped back as working royals in 2020. The decision highlights the tense relationship between the royal family after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to leave royal duties in 2020 referred to as “Megxit”. Thereafter, the couple pursuing media business and independent charitable work abroad, particularly in the United States, created an immense rift between them and the top royals, according to reports. While there have been gestures of reconciliation in public, such as their recent reconciliation in the UK, the formal structure of royal duties is closed to Harry. The King has apparently made it “absolutely clear” that Harry can’t balance official royal duties with commercial ventures, which a source said is in line with “upholding his late mother’s decision.” Also Read: ‘Living Nostradamus’ Makes Chilling Prediction On Prince Harry’s Future: ‘He Will Never Return Home’ “High-level” talks are also reportedly underway between aides for Charles and Harry to appear together for a “public show of unity,” and Buckingham Palace staff and Sussex staff are “tentatively discussing” for the two men to meet up “more frequently over the next year, with a view to them finally appearing jointly at a public event”—possibly when Harry’s Invictus Games return to the UK, Birmingham specifically, in 2027.
