Hamilton Accies skipper: Lack of depth means we must be lucky with injuries

Scott Robinson admits Hamilton Accies lack of depth leaves them up against it late on in games. But he insists they can’t put pressure on themselves to try and blow teams away in the first half of matches. A transfer embargo has left Accies limited and in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Peterhead the club had to name 39-year-old assistant manager Darian MacKinnon on the bench to make up the numbers. Accies only named five subs and used just one – Bobby McLuckie – in the 81st minute, while under-18s Josh Carson, Aaron Eadie and goalkeeper Michael Marks made up the rest of the bench. While the solitary sub paid off with McLuckie setting up Stuart McKinstry for an 89th minute equaliser, Robinson says it is also important they avoid any more injuries to an already stretched squad. He said: “We would love to have other boys registered and have more depth, but there is nothing we can do about that. We just need to keep plugging away. “Of course we want to start games well, but if you go into the game thinking we need to score quickly or score in the first half too much, that might affect us. “But I do feel we need to be lucky in terms of avoiding injuries because if we get a knock or a concussion in the game, we are really struggling for options. “Bobby was our only real option on Saturday and he is new to the group so he needs a bit of time to settle. “He came on and did really well, gave us a spark, but the only real option we have from the bench is a new loan player, so it is not ideal. “We don’t have many options so hopefully we can get a few of the injured boys back soon.”
