Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Sign Landmark Defence Pact

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a landmark Strategic Mutual Defence Pact in Riyadh on Wednesday. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman declared that any attack on either nation will be considered an attack on both. The move formalises decades of close relations into a powerful strategic shield.

Strengthening Defence and Security

The pact, signed at the Yamama Palace, aims to boost defence cooperation. It includes joint military exercises, advanced defence technology collaboration, and intelligence sharing. Officials said the agreement will enhance deterrence against external threats and send a strong message to adversaries.

Historic Partnership

According to the Foreign Office, the agreement is rooted in nearly eight decades of partnership built on Islamic values, shared interests, and close military cooperation. Analysts view it as a turning point in regional security, making the Pakistan–Saudi Arabia alliance one of the strongest in the Muslim world.

Leadership Engagement

During the visit, both leaders reviewed bilateral relations, regional challenges, and global issues. Shehbaz Sharif thanked Saudi leaders for their hospitality and extended good wishes to King Salman and the Saudi people. Crown Prince Mohammed assured continued support and friendship for Pakistan.

Symbolic Gestures of Brotherhood

Saudi officials welcomed the Prime Minister with a guard of honour. When his plane entered Saudi airspace, Saudi Air Force jets escorted it, a gesture celebrated as a symbol of deep brotherly respect.

Expanding Cooperation

PM Shehbaz was accompanied by senior ministers, including Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Attaullah Tarar, Musadik Malik, and Tariq Fatemi. The Foreign Office stated that the visit would also expand cooperation in trade, energy, and other sectors, further cementing ties.

Regional Impact

Experts say the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Sign Landmark Defence Pact milestone could reshape regional power dynamics. With enhanced military and strategic collaboration, the two countries now stand as a united front against emerging threats.
