Lachie Neale looking smooth ahead of AFL Grand Final
All signs are pointing towards a return for the Grand Final for Lachie Neale.
Brisbane Lions midfielder Jarrod Berry looms as the heartbreaking story for this year’s AFL Grand Final.
Every year we see at least one player miss out on a spot in the team for the biggest game of the season and this time around it’s sadly Berry who appears set to watch on from the stands.

The 27-year-old was subbed out of the club’s preliminary final win over Collingwood after he dislocated his left shoulder for the second time in five weeks.
Berry was subbed out of the club’s round 23 clash against Fremantle with the same injury but returned for the qualifying final against Geelong.
“It has (happened before) … they said before the Hawthorn game that if it was a Grand Final, I’d play so we’ll see what happens,” he told Channel 7 after the win over the Pies.
While he hasn’t been officially ruled out yet, the signs for him not being named are mounting up after the Lions held a training session on Thursday.
Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary reported there was “no sign of Jarrod Berry” during the entire 80-minute session at Princes Park.

With Berry appearing set to miss out, the Lions will be buoyed by the return of captain Lachie Neale who has performed a miracle recovery from injury.
Neale suffered a calf injury against Geelong and was originally listed to miss 4-6 weeks, but on Wednesday he completed the entire session and has put his hand up for selection.
“I’m confident I’ll get up for a whole game, but selection is this arvo so you’ll find out at the same time as me,” Neale said on Thursday.

Club legend Jonathan Brown said the club simply must put Neale in the team while saying they shouldn’t gamble with Berry.
“I think Lachie will play,” Brown said.
“He’s the captain of your club. We know what he’s achieved as an individual.
“I think it would be a let-down for the group if he was right to play and Fages and the coaching staff didn’t pick him.
“I don’t think you can take the risk on both him and Jarrod Berry.”

Geelong on the other hand have been forced into making at least one change with Tom Stewart’s fate sealed after he suffered a concussion against Hawthorn in the preliminary final.
The Cats are expected to bring ruckman Rhys Stanley back into the mix which would then free up utility Mark Blicavs to play a roaming role around the ground.

“Expecting Rhys Stanley to be named as Tom Stewart’s replacement tonight for Geelong. Has overcome the hamstring that he injured in the pre-finals bye. Would allow Mark Blicavs to be flexible and drop into defence … or potentially a forward tag on Harris Andrews,” Mitch Cleary wrote on X.
The teams for both the Brisbane Lions and Geelong Cats will be confirmed after 6pm (AEST) on Thursday.
The Grand Final will kick off at 2.30pm (AEST) on Saturday, September 27.
